California Native American Day Program 2010
California Native American Day was began in 1968 by the Governor of California, Ronald Reagan, who signed a resolution calling for the fourth Friday of each September to be American Indian Day and an official day of Native American education. Today, people of all ages celebrate California Native American Day by learning more about the 100+ recognized tribes in California, their culture, heritage and traditions.
To experience the distinctive cultures of California Indian people firsthand, the Cahto tribe, in partnership with the Laytonville Unfied School District, co-sponcered a day of celebration, featuring traditional Native American songs, dance, music, art, and crafts for the district students.
