"We do not inherit this land from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children."
-- Haida Indian saying

With winter almost here, flowers and springtime might seem like a distant memory. But remember, December's a good time to buy and plant your spring-flowering bulbs such as anemones, crocuses and ranunculus, as well as bare-root fruit trees and all kinds of berries and grapes.

"This we know: the earth does not belong to man; man belongs to the earth. This we know. All things are connected like the blood which unites one family. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth."
-- Chief Seattle

The U.S. EPA challenges Americans to change the lights in their homes to use energy-efficient ENERGY STAR bulbs and fixtures. According to Administrator Christie Whitman, just changing one light could keep "one trillion pounds of greenhouse gases out of the air." For more information, call 1-888-STAR-YES, or visit their website at: http://www.energystar.gov.
